It is with deep sadness that we have heard of the death of one of our members – Stan Ebberely – Stan has been a stalwart member of the Club for many years, serving as a Trustee, and he has also made a major contribution in looking after the bowling green and snooker tables.
Sport was a big part of Stan’s life, representing Rolleston Club in both bowls and snooker teams. He played with distinction for many years for Rolleston and was a well known bowler throughout the area, he also played football for Rolleston Old Boys along with Ben Robinson. Stan in his earlier years was a very prominent member of Rolleston Cricket Club being an excellent bowler and all round cricketer. After playing he was regularly seen watching the matches and spent many hours at the ground. During the summer period he visited the County Ground on many occasions to watch Derbyshire in action. In last few years he became a loyal supporter of Derby County and Burton Albion and was regularly seen wearing his black and white scarf or his yellow and black dependant on which club was playing at home.
Stan enjoyed his pint of Bass with his friends at the Club and members will miss him greatly. The Committee and Staff of Rolleston Club wish to pass on their deepest sympathy to Stan’s family and say that he will be sadly missed.
Really sad news to hear of Stan’s passing,
Known Stan for over 40 years, firstly I spent time with Stan at work as an apprentice at E W Bliss Ltd in Derby, where I was Stan’s Engineering Apprentice for 6 months and as a working colleague.
Latterly seeing Stan in the club every week, and chatting about old friends and sport,
Raising a glass to a true gentleman and
old friend.
